More croquis and pastel freestyle

Finally back to the Animation Workshop! We haven't been there for ages, but now we get to be there for three weeks :) Of cause we started out with croquis and quick sketches:

My Little Pony Halloween Transformation!

Today I began my new hobby: painting old My Little Ponies! This particular pony is actually from my mothers childhood and originally calles "Peachy". I wouldnt dare to remove all her cuteness, so instead of a full halloween make-over I decided to make her a bit more creepy-cute.

Of cause I found my black paint and sciccors right away and began my evil experiment.

I decided to give pink / purple eyes and a skull as her cutie-mark. Here is the final results:

If I am able to find some more ponies to paint I will experiment with more scary and evil-looking transformations during October. Happy almost Halloween!

Family trip and ocean sketches

Yessterday we were on a Family trip to the Southern part of Jutland and the boarders of Germany. It was the perfect occasion to bring my sketch book and my pastel blocks. I only made a few sketches, since we spent most of the day in the car, but here is what I made:

Pastel Practice, the Tamil Case and more!

More pastel drawings! I simply love my new pastels >^.^<

I found a lovely park in Viborg :)

We have been learning about immigrants in Denmark during the 1960-80's, which is actually quite interesting. One of the most important parts of this is the Tamil Case, which is a case about Family reunification of Tamil refugees from the Sri Lankan civil war in the 80's. When we were told to make a drawing of what happened during the Tamil Case and this is what I made:

The Tamil refugees are running for their lifes in the search for shelter and safety but the door to Denmark has been locked and Denmark is pulling the door to make sure that no one enters. Exaggerated, I know, but that's how I see it.

Freestyle and some school work

I bought a box of pastels the other day and I have had a lot of fun playing with them. Besides I have also been using water colour pencils. Here is the product of the last few days:

 

 

Recently we were told to make a quick cartoon to a text we read in religion, about Muhammed and his life. The first drawing is Muhammed walking through the dessert. On the second one he is preaching his "new" religion. On the last one he finally reaches the throne of God:

More portraits and a drawing from the theater

We had another fun day today drawing portraits of each other. It didn't start out very well for me and my trusty pencil, but I ended up with a few good drawings after all ;)

I like the first two as sketches, but as portraits they aren't that good. But I think it got better and better throughout the day, so I guess I've learned something from it:

The last I really like. It actually does look a litttle like the model and I found out that it is much easier to work with both crayon and pencil. For me at least :)

 

Before lunch we went to see a show called "Nye Toner" / "New Tones" at the Drama School in one of the other buildings and we were told to make some sketches during the show. It was a quite odd story, but very entertaining as well. It was centered around a Danish song, "Solen er så rød, mor" (translation: "The sun is so red, mum") and a sad story about a car crash . It started out in a fun and childish manner but evolved over time to a somewhat tragic tale. This is my drawing from the show:

 

 

It is two people holding each other with a setting sun as background. That is the story from my point of view. I saw it as a story about understanding and connecting with each other through music. I am going to stop now, before I get too cheesy...

Blind contour drawing and a portrait

Today was quite an amusing day as we did a lot of blind contour drawing, wich basically means "Do not look at the paper!". Drawing while not knowing what exactly your drawing looks like a rather difficult, but a lot of fun :) For some reason my hands won't keep up with my mind so I made a bunch of 'interesting' sketches of my classmates:

Later we paired up and made portraits. I had the honor of drawing Jona and despite some obvious mistakes i think it's okay, considering that I've never really made a portrait before ;) I'm learning as I go >^.^<

An English Assignment

In our English class we have read the short story "The Star" written by Alasdair Grey (I love that name!) and we were told to Draw the star from the story as we saw it. In the text it was described as being the size of glass marble and containing shifting pattern / images and colours. In my mind the star was a shining, colourful and solid glass-like sphere. This is my version of Alasdair Grey's "The Star":



I think I'll add a scanner to my wish-list. My camera is no good...

 I chose a colour palette of blue and yellow, and I am quite satisfied. Playing with colours is still new to me, so I find it rather interesting to see how the different colours and shades act together. So, except for bad light in my room, I think I am pretty happy :)

An old project - Odense Filmfestival

For about a month back our class made a bunch of short films with the theme "shift" to Odense Filmfestival. My group decided not to make an animated short, since it would be quite some work for only one weekend. The film was not allowed to be more than three minutes and it had to feature a stick. I think it turned out pretty good, if not a bit abstract ;) It was really fun filming the different parts (in rather odd locations) and watching it all come together in the end. Here is our short non-animated movie:

Stickers and more croquis

Today I finally finished our sticker asignment. We recieved a lot of blank stickers in different sizes and were told to fill them with drawings, and though I only finished a few I had a lot of fun playing with colours, which is kinda new to me :)

Of my four stickers I only have pictures of two, which is a shame since I haven't got a picture of my favorite one. But here they are:

I think I might make some more stickers just for fun. I know a sad Little bus stop near my home and it could really need some cheering up ;)

We also made some more croquis today and I was pretty satisfied with some of the results. At least when I compare to those I made a week ago. These are the best 2 minute sketches from today:

 

Later I will make a few new pages to my blog. One will be to gather all of my croquis drawings in one place etc. to make it a bit easier to navigate.

Classical Drawing and Croquis

For the last couple of weeks we have been drawing like crazy! We have been taught the basics of classical drawing and croquis, and I must admit: sitting still for 1-3 hours while drawing a woman who just won't stand still long enough (!) is harder than it seems, even with 15 minute breaks. But I have really learned a lot! After just two days of drawing croquis I could see the difference in the way I draw, which is awesome :D

These are some examples of 30 seconds and 2 minute sketches with coal:
